Anime Boston
April 6th – April 8th

Went to Anime Boston with the Animation Club from the University of Maine, campus. The near five hour bus ride down at 7am was horrifically boring but in general it was worth the experience. I really enjoyed myself and had the opportunity to meet with some artists in artist alley.

One particular artist was fresh out of college, from Canada, and majored in animation. His artwork was fantastic! I asked him tons of questions, mostly about getting a job and where he got his inspiration to complete the beautiful works he had up to sell. He was there with two other friends from the same class year as himself, so they provided some definite good insight.

  • Class A portfolio presentation
  • Interesting Genre and themes, though primarily game inspire fan art.
  • He did a lot of his own game concept stuff: Backgrounds, scenes, visual construction beneath the rendering of an object/layout.
  • He’s looking into gaming: concept, animation, or what have you
  • There was plenty more we chatted about, particularly my interest in his Photoshop technique and abilities. He uses far less fancy brushes than I do, most of them from the default photoshop layout- my mind is blown.

Regarding the $23 Survival Trip, well… Let’s just say I had next to no money and bought only a pair of steampunk key-shaped earrings as my souvenir, living healthily off a diet of Cheezits, all natural granola bars, and propel water. $10 for a slice of pizza and a drink!?!? I can’t afford that Boston! Wasn’t all bad though, besides getting four blisters from walking around everywhere (probably near 3 or 4 miles) in flats I still thoroughly enjoyed myself. Though I really wish I had been able to save up more money to purchase items.

Now I have money for art though! Need to buy my supplies… OH god the homework.
