A humble request

Dear Professor Joline Blais,

I would like to propose an idea of art! I took some time to really sit down and think about what I would be inspired to commit and create, and I decided that after much thought (which was
really silly because it was so completely obvious to begin with) that I wanted to express my desire to tell a story. Not just any story, I wanted to make a series of three artistic and original digital paintings using Photoshop CS4 and my Intuos 4 Wireless tablet. I came to this conclusion after realizing that I have no greater desire than to create, but not just create, to tell a story. When I design a character I’m not just spitting out an image of a person. I’m telling the story of their past through their reflection at the present. I’m sharing their personality and exposing them before an audience that do not know nor will ever. It’s a window into a life of another that no one’s experienced, a life that through presentation leaves a viewer wondering, needing to know what happened or what happens next.

Through my artwork I will share a story traditional, unoriginal story, which will include a beginning, middle, and an end. Each image will be standard paper size of 11×8.5” at 300 dpi but may require downgrading in order to upload online for the web. I can go to the CML and see about printing them in color to present in class. I feel that it is important that I tell the story picture by picture, without verbally saying anything to describe it. With each check-in I will do my best to produce either a wip (work in progress) image or one of the three (in order) finished piece. I will work hard and timely seeking to be efficient and receiving possible feedback from the class before striving forward.

The overall goal of a triptych series of digital paintings would be to effectively create an image that any audience can study in order of first to second and then last, and be able to recognize the action happening in each one, as well as understand that they are connected. Although the images themselves may be extremely detailed and complex in creation and desire, the action within each should be obvious and easy to translate and comprehend. But most of all, I want people to look at this series and enjoy them! I’m always concerned with whether or not I made a beautiful picture, but also if what I made speaks to each person individually.
