This is an incomplete set of three images I will be finishing for reproductive and commercial use. I hope to finish them in time for the next convention I attend and sell them as decent sized prints. Breif commentary about the backstory behind each image will be available as well as a brief video.

Glittering Gold
This image is inspired by a long-standing character concept I started back in 2005. Her name is Marceline, french for warlike; she’s of alien origin and from a world clad in war. This is her out in the field and not so much a true taste of her hardship as much as it is a glorious insight to a life of success, from her perspective.

Kings and Crowns
This image is of the same red-headed character sporting a new outfit and more along the lines of a ‘battle ready’ pinup. Behind her is a blue dragon gone by the name Hegan, he’s a Thunder elemental that wars the skys, and the two are partners in business.

Of a Warrior’s Way
This was a speed-painting I originally did for another class but it had the potential to become better. Since I have the original photoshop file I’m going to be going back and reworking the entire image. I hope to improve it beyond the texture and vague detail already presented.

This is an incomplete set of three images I look forward to completing. This is about a character concept named Marceline. She’s a 5’11, tube grown Dragon Chimera, bred and raised for the purpose of both organizing and directing a specific field of war. These images are vague misconceptions of her life thus-far, rather these are commercial captured moments. I intentionally glorified her, approaching concepts that were easier for me to commit and create. More than anything, I aimed to sell.
So from beginning to last (top to bottom), we have Marceline alone, out in the field, centered and the obvious focus. Her movements and pose are admirable, artistic and inspiring. I captured a commanding presence, moving but stilled for this moment so that the audience would be enticed to investigate the action further. The visual story is open for interpretation so long as the key elements still remain translated.
For the second image, we have Marceline and her right-hand man, Hegan. He is a natural born Dragon of Thunder, confided to human form for the purpose of serving Marceline in a more humanoid environment. He is seen, worshiped and respected as a God and thus presents himself so, but he is of no such origin. I sought to present both in majestic poses, powerful and commanding, giving insight as to their position and attitude. The two are a fine compliment of Fire and Thunder, a clash of the two elements blended nicely into a background-less concept.
The third image is more or less a statement. Marceline is visually present inviting the viewer into a dynamic and interesting perspective where she becomes the focus of an otherwise dark, busy and dangerous environment. Her eyes are a forged golden color, fierce and piercing to the soul, her expression stony cold and reminiscent of the stereo-typical psychopath. Her fingers are dipped in the blood of her slain, her movements sharp but stilled for this moment of silence where the color used engulfs her and brings to life a temporary atmosphere that you could almost breathe in.
This is a bookmark I hope to also sell. It’s called “Red Witch” and is of a more recently developed character concept.
In general, I learned a great deal about time management but more so what people were interested in. I met a lot of artists in “Artist Alley” during Anime Boston, visiting their panels and discovering that a lot their original ideas sold better than concepts created specifically to cater to crowd. That isn’t to say that ‘fan art’ doesn’t sell because it does, but inspired fanart sells better than otherwise, forced fanart with weak concepts and bland vision. Experience is a real key contributing factor to making a solid fan-art image. Games, Movies, Television Characters and Anime are all massive commercial banks, all things that I can take the time to participate in, or experience allowing me the time to draw from my source the inspiration I’d need to create a successful image.
Despite these three images not being fanart for the general crowd, it is still a set of three conceptual ideas. Images that, in the world of originality, display my skill and ability to create concept art. I find that these work in progress represent me well as an artist still looking to learn, displaying my style and ability to tackle design, form, lighting, situation, action, mood, etc. The overall experience strengthens me as an artist as well as my portfolio.
